Swiss Review / November 2018 / No.6 29 The alternative reality The Aargauer Kunsthaus is currently showing a large-scale exhibition devoted to Surrealism – the enigmatic, magical and at times threatening art movement. Salvador Dalí, René Magritte, Giorgio de Chirico, Max Ernst or Yves Tanguy are the names that first come to mind when thinking about Surrealism. There is also Meret Oppenheim, whose fur cup is probably one of the most famous works of Surrealism and can now be found in the MoMA in New York, and Alberto Giacometti and Serge Brignoni, who were active members of the movement as early as the 1920s. The Aargauer Kunsthaus is currently showing around 400 works by Swiss artists from the Surrealist period in an impressive exhibition.
